.CTGU grasps good opportunities of opening and developing Three Gorges Area, taking advantage of industry and location to serve the state¡¯s key projects and local economic development actively. In resent years, CTGU has undertaken and completed about 100 research items at the state or provincial level, including the state¡¯s key tasks, the tasks of China Natural Scientific Fund, the key tasks of the State Electric Power Corporation£¬the key tasks of Three Gorges Project and the tasks of Huo Yingdong Fund. In that way, CTGU has completed the scientific research programs for Three Gorges Project that amounted to 20 million yuan and the key programs of the State Power Company that amounted to more than 3 million yuan. In the past three years, more than 3400 academic papers were published at home and abroad. More than 100 academic works were published, such as Monographs, complies, translation of works and textbooks. The average annual scientific outlay was more than 3 million yuan, 20 million yuan in the year 2000. It has achieved more than 10 Scientific Progress Prizes at ministerial or provincial level and more than 100 Hubei Provincial Prices of Excellent Natural Science Paper. In 2002, it submitted 226 scientific research programs to relevant authority, in which 104 were approved, and got 59 programs from the cooperative companies. The university set up 61 Scientific Research Funds and gets 20,126,000 yuan for its scientific researches.
It has made great achievement on scientific technology transformation. The project ¡°Navigation Theory and Practice of Diversion Channel of the Under-construction Period of Three Gorges Project¡±, in which CTGU is involved, has been appraised by the experts group that the whole project is keeping its outstanding image in the world and 3 specific programs of it taking the leading roles at home. The Slope Plant Spraying Technology, developed by CTGU, has been applied in the afforestation of Shuibuya Dam, Gaobazhou Dam, Geheyan Dam and Three Gorges Project, and also been extended to Shandong, Jiangsu, Sichuan Province and so on.
Through years of scientific research practice, with great achievements, CTGU has already trained its academic staff and set its special research direction in the fields of Geo-technical Mechanics, High Slope Project, Dam Base Rock Project, Construction Organization and Design, Water Power Station Simulation, Hydraulic Structure Design Theory and Approach, Reservoir Optimisation Management, Dam Construction Supervision Technology, Hazard Prevention and Reduction Project, Multi-media Three Dimensions Dynamic Model, Mechanical Engineering, Jointing Technology, Electric Power System and Automatics, Program and Contract Management, Information System, Molecular Biology, Biological Fungus Species Project, Three Gorges Culture and Tourism, Regional Economic Development, Tour Management.
