Having been approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2000 and dispatched by the People’s Administration of Hubei Province on May 25, China Three Gorges University (CTGU) was founded on 29 of June, 2000. CTGU comprises of the former University of Hydraulic & Electric Engineering/Yichang whose predecessor was Gezhouba Institute of Hydroeletric Engineering, and Hubei Sanxia University whose predecessors were Yichang Teachers’ College, Yichang Medical College and Yichang College. CTGU condenses the four colleges in Yichang into one, which is an embodiment of deepening educational reform, in breaking the system of separated higher education management and adjusting the layout and structure. CTGU is coconstructed by the central government, provincial and local government. It is mainly managed by the province and is an comprehensive university which has the largest scale apart from Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, and the most complete offering of subjects in Hubei Province.
