China Three Gorges University offers 9 key disciplines and core laboratories of the provincial and ministerial level. In 2002 the university started up 12 key discipline constructions of the university level and the newly built biological and hydroelectric engineering departments are the university’s key subjects and laboratories. The university has developed the management system of the ministerial level core laboratory and the research center on the Three Gorges culture and the development of social economics have passed the evaluation organized by Hubei Education Department. The university plans to put 50 million RMB into the key department’s construction in the next 5 years and there will be more investment in the future. The university provided 8,850 thousand RMB for the laboratory construction in the year 2002 alone. Since the year 2000, the university has set up hazard prevention and reduction engineering and research centres for simulation and control and so on. Now there are 19 items of the key discipline construction planned in the 10th Five-year plan. In the near future, the disciplines of hydroelectric energy engineering, hazard and environment, computer information and control engineering, the Three Gorges culture and tourism, life science and biological technology will be much strengthened.
