At
present there are 20 teaching units in CTGU, namely the College
of Civil & Hydroelectric Engineering, College of Mechanic
& Material Engineering, College of Electric Engineering &
Information Technology, College of Economics & Management,
College of Science, College of Medical Science, College of Arts,
College of Education, College of Performing & Fine Arts, College
of Politics & Law, College of Chemistry & Life Science,
College of Foreign Languages, College of International Communications,
College of Physical Education, College of Science & Technology,
College of Adult Education, College of Nursing Science, College
of Vocational Technology£¬No.1 College of Clinical Science and
No.2 College of Clinical Science. The university consists of 10
Master¡¯s programs with 19 newly developed Doctoral programs and
Master¡¯s programs under construction; 44 undergraduate specialities,
which include science, engineering, medicine, arts, management,
economics, law and pedagogy. In June 2002, the Speciality of Civil
Engineering passed the evaluation organized by the Professional
Evaluation Committee of Higher Education from the Ministry of
Construction; also 6 newly established undergraduate specialities
and the College of Science & Technology passed the qualification
evaluation organized by the Provincial Education Department.
There are over
20,400 full-time students, including undergraduates, postgraduates
and overseas students as well as 11,000 adult students in CTGU.
At the second
meeting on teaching in 2002, the university proposed that the
target for teaching undergraduates should be to foster personnel
with high quality and good ability, combined with the development
of moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic education, and
the harmonious progress of knowledge, capability and quality;
and develop creative spirits, practical caliber, extensive social
adaptability and competitive ability. Besides, CTGU would cultivate
personnel with high quality and applied ability, able to face
the state economic construction and social development. CTGU aims
to foster personnel with ability in diversified and multiple ways.
The three backbone system projects how the university proposes
to realize the cultivation of personnel with ability by: building
an excellent environment, where educational innovation take the
form of a credit system as the bridge and sets up an assured program
of quality.
Two years since
the merge, as its central focus, CTGU has adhered to train qualified
personnel, and consequently, the quality of the personnel is highly
praised by various circles in society. In 2001 more than 12% of
undergraduates passed the postgraduate entrance examination to
pursue their Masters¡¯ and in 2002 this increased to 15.6%. Now
more and more students passed CET-4, and the employment rate of
graduates reached 94%, surpassing other provincial universities.
All the graduates work well and have been praised by the employers.
In the past two years, the students obtained a number of prizes
in various competitions in the province as well as in the country.
For instance, in 2001, in the Nationwide Electron Designing Competition,
students from CTGU were awarded a first prize throughout the country
and two second prizes throughout the province; in the Provincial
Mathematical Construction Model Competition, students were awarded
3 second prizes; in the University Students¡¯ English Speech Contest,
the students obtained the second provincial prize; in ¡°the Third
Challenging Cup¡± University Student Extracurricular Academic and
Technology Works Competition, 8 works of the students won prizes.
And besides, every year there are quite a few students who receive
top scholarship from the Electric Power Hi-tech of the National
Electric Power Educational Foundation, or from the Electricity
Generating Association or honorable titles from the Water Conservancy
Association in Hubei Province.
